The desert date palm, also known as Sump in Wolof (Senegal), is a thorny tree 8m to 9m high. Its fruit is a drupe (a fleshy fruit with a pit) 3 to 4 cm in size, called the desert date.
The fruits contain a pit that contains an almond rich in oil.
The desert date palm is widespread in the Sahel, Egypt, Sudan, Arabia, and Asia.

It is an oil with significant virtues:
